There is only one life that each one of us will get to experience. The world will try to tell us that we must jam pack our short existence with fun, adventure and excitement so that we live a life worthy of being admired. Although, what we must consider before our time comes to its expected end is that our physical bodies have an expiration date. Our souls will continue to live on for eternity. It is the eternal home for our spirits that we must have our full attention on now. We will not get another earthly life to correct our mistakes. This is the one and only physical body we shall ever see again. (Hebrews 9:27)
In the beginning God created heaven and earth. Sin started from Adam and Eve and is what separated us from God. Our Savior Jesus Christ came down from heaven as the ultimate sacrifice to free us from sin by giving His life. As Jesus' parting gift, He left us with the Holy Spirit to be a Helper to us.
There's no way to convey in such a short amount of time all of what God has done to not only draw us to Him, but to keep us as well. Our soul is so precious to God that He has given us the free will to just have an opportunity to be saved and make heaven our home. This opportunity, in addition to choices, are two things satan wants to block from our path in life. If he can keep us hopeless then he can keep us from receiving help. If satan can keep us believing that a living holy is an almost impossible task, then he’ll do it.
In certain moments, it may feel like it is hard to live holy and at times it could even seem unappealing but on the contrary that is only because we are looking at it with the wrong spirit. Once we are justified and sanctified, our appetite and views of the world begin to change. The sinful things we once found appealing start to look unacceptable to us (Romans 8:5). It all starts with our spirit being filled with the Holy Spirit. Our Father in heaven wants to establish and keep a relationship with us so much that He has given us the ultimate cheat sheet on this test of life. It is the Holy Spirit who is able to make the holy Christian life more enjoyable and easier to navigate by
helping us in times of weakness (Romans 8:26)
keeping us delivered from sin (Romans 7:6)
giving understanding of the things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10)
Whatever hesitancy or uncertainty in our worthiness in Christ, just know that there is no condemnation (guilt or punishment) to those who follow Christ through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:1). So all we need to do is just come as we are because a willing heart is all the Lord wants of us. Instead of dread, let us fill our hearts with delight on the work the Lord will do for us.
With our final thoughts for this reading, we would like to take you back to our original paragraph to examine our own soul. What is the health of your soul right now? Is your soul being fed the things of God or are you allowing the enemy to lead you to destruction? For the enemy, an unclean spirit is a weapon of jagged edges that is used to cause further harm to one's whole being. For God, an unclean spirit is a malleable form that is waiting to be shaped and molded into a vessel to be used for the kingdom of God.
“The spirit of man will sustain him in sickness but who can bear a broken spirit?” -Proverbs 18:14
